Apply it right
- Weed thoroughly first, mulch suppresses, it doesn't kill
- Soak the soil before applying if it's dry
- Keep mulch 5cm away from plant stems and tree trunks (volcano mulching kills)
- March to April is the perfect window in Fife, soil's warming, weeds haven't exploded yet
- Top up annually; don't replace the lot every year
